PEX Tubing Connection Systems
When working with PEX tubing, connections need to be made between PEX tubing and a fitting. Crimps, clamps, and presses are used to make these connections secure. In order to work with these connection systems, special tools are required. For example, both a crimping tool and a decrimping tool are required to work with crimp rings. Cinch clamps require a clamping tool and presses require a special PEX press tool.
Crimps

Crimp rings are used to create a firm and secure connection between the PEX tubing and the connected fitting. These rings are made from either copper or stainless steel. Crimp rings are sized to be compatible with the PEX tubing they’re used for. A crimping tool is also sized to work for either a specific crimp ring size or for a range of sizes.
Clamps

Cinch clamp rings and crimp rings are almost identical in their shape and purpose. Cinch clamp rings feature an extruding metallic portion that is pinched with a cinch clamp tool. Clamp rings are almost always made from stainless steel.
Press

PEX press connection
Press rings are almost exclusively made from stainless steel. These rings can be used to compress regular PEX as well as PEX-Al-PEX tubing. The PEX pipe is inserted into the stainless steel sleeve. The jaws of a PEX Press tool are then placed squarely over the sleeve and compressed to make the connection.
